What's the Deal
By Jetfighter

What is good bitches! The draft is just under 2 weeks away so why not drop some knowledge for all you suckas. This is not ground breaking mind you, but what you have missed in the last week, plus Jetfighter's thought on the big 6 for the draft.

Arit D-rob might get his fat a** finally traded. I have heard the Broncos have a new contract offered on the table and are willing to drop a second day draft pick (rounds 3-7 tricks) on his bum knee and $11 million cap hit. Peace out and good looks Bradway. Winner winner chicken dinner!

This might be the last year the draft is the big NYC. I say they should keep it in the marketing capital of the world, and home of the best damn team in the NFL (not you Giants). Having Jet fans scream and hearing all the boos is part of the lore of the draft + the occasional exciting YEAHHHHH for a fan favorite.

Arit this is what I think for the draft. I am crossing my fingers on Vernon Gholston or Darren McFadden. Gholston could be our standing/hands in the ground OLB/DE opposite Pace/Ellis in certain packages. People could say he is another Mamula (workout warrior) but his collegiate stats at Ohio State are comparable to former Maryland Terp Shawne Merriman.

The other father of the yea....I mean draft choice would be the Darren McFadden aka Run DMC from Arkansas. He is the home runner hitter, lightening in the bottle the Jets so desperately need on offense. Yea people shut up with your whole "His legs stop on contact, he fumbles too much, and always runs to the outside instead of hitting the wholes and tries to outrun the defender" talk. That can all be fixed in the NFL with coaches! He has the ability on any play to take that rock to the house, and will strike the fear of God in every d-coordinator in the league for the next 8-10 years.

Now granted they both could be gone by the 6th pick, so I say trade down, add some extra picks, and select either a CB, WR, ILB, or OL depth in that order of importance.

Peace

Analyzing Glenn Dorsey
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Fri Apr 04, 2008 at 11:57:02 AM EST

I will start to do a series here on the site pertaining mainly to highly touted draft prospects and how the Jets should think when it comes to who will be left at number six. We'll start with Glenn Dorsey, who I picked in the Mock Draft here at SBN. I got a lot of criticism for picking him but I thought he was the best player available that could be of good use to the Jets and he is so much better then everyone else that was there. The first piece of advice I got was from Matt Miller of Mocking the Draft who said it was a bad pick because Dorsey isn't fit for the Jets 3-4 defensive scheme. He's right, but the gap between Dorsey and the rest of the players available was so wide. I personally think we didn't need any help in the secondary, with two young guys patrolling the field in Revis and Rhodes. Yes, I could have taken Matt Ryan but I just think we need to give Clemens some more time.

As for Dorsey and how good of a college player he was, the guy has size, simply put. He's over 300 pounds, one of two linemen projected by many to go in the top 10 and are over 300 (Sedrick Ellis is the other one). He was arguably the greatest defender in LSU history, winning four awards last season. He also ran a 5.14 in the 40, a number that tells me he is a lot faster than his weight tells you. It's important for big defensive linemen to stay in shape and be quick off the first step these days, and I think Dorsey has mastered that skill. Dorsey, aside from what type of scheme he's made for, was still apart of a defensive squad that gave up 97.1 yards per game two years ago, and was named SEC defensive player of the year last season.

You can criticize me all you want, but if Glenn Dorsey is the best player there when the Jets draft at number six, I just don't see anyone else who they should take. I think he can adjust to a three man line, and it may not show right away when he enters the league. However, all players make adjustments and I'm sure Eric Mangini will have no problem fitting Dorsey in to make him feel as comfortable as possible if he becomes a Jet.

Jets Links: April 4
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Fri Apr 04, 2008 at 08:14:52 AM EST

I've decided to switch up the daily links format. I will provide the link to the story along with an excerpt and my opinion on the story.

-The Jets have release their preseason schedule. It's an NFC East preseason with games against the Giants, Redskins, and Eagles. Also, we'll battle it out with the Browns.

-The Jets say goodbye to Hofstra.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- From a terrace at the Jets' under-construction palace of a practice facility and headquarters, Woody Johnson fixed his gaze on an old tree between two fields. The tree has a split trunk, forcing its branches upward into a shape Johnson hopes will signal a new era for the football team he owns.

"I swear," Johnson said. "That looks like a V for victory."

Since 1974, the Jets have called Hofstra University home. The team will keep it that way through the end of training camp this summer before planting roots here, near Fairleigh Dickinson University, at the address 1 Jets Drive. And although more than 30 years of memories have strengthened the team's ties to Long Island, the move represents an upgrade to a swanky facility from a serviceable one.

This is certainly a good thing for the Jets, a symbol of the future and an organization moving forward in the right direction.

-Jets Confidential talks to Mel Kiper. They spoke to him about guys like Matt Ryan, Gholston, and Glenn Dorsey. He says that Ryan is the type of QB that you would compare to Eli Manning and Big Ben, also that the worst spot he would end up at is number eight to the Ravens. I agree, and I think he would be a nice fit in Baltimore. However, the Dolphins wouldn't be hurting themselves if they took him. You can check out the article for Kiper's opinions on Dorsey, Gholston, and who he thinks Miami could look closer at for the number one pick.

Analyzing The 2008 SBN Mock Draft So Far...
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 11:57:35 AM EST

Well, I was able to get my pick in for the SBN mock draft that they are doing over at Mocking the Draft, and I thank Brian Galliford and the Sports Guru as well as Matt Miller for helping out in making this such a great event!

Anyway, here are the top nine picks so far.
1. Dolphins- Chris Long
2. Rams- Vernon Gholston
3. Falcons- Jake Long
4. Raiders- Darren McFadden
5. Chiefs- Sedrick Ellis
6. Jets- Glenn Dorsey
7. Patriots- Leodis McKelvin
8. Ravens- Matt Ryan
9. Bengals- Keith Rivers

Some picks I really like are the Rams taking Gholston, the Pats without a head blogger taking McKelvin, and the Raiders taking DMC. The Rams need some more talent on the defensivle line and at linebacker, and by taking Gholston they have a guy who can play both positions but will probably play linebacker. Now, their defense is more solidified with the young talent. Obviously the Patriots didn't have the type of off season they hoped to have, losing two key components of the secondary in Asante Samuel and Randall Gay. They take McKelvin who will probably compete very nicely with Ellis Hobbs and Eugene Wilson for some kind of starting role in the secondary in 2008. Also, the Raiders did sign Justin Fargas to an extension but I still like them taking DMC. First, I was glad that I wouldn't have to decide between DMC and someone the Jets could really use when it came to my pick, and Fargas isn't really proven quite yet. I would be very pleased with the future as it seems if I were a Raider fan and they took DMC.

I also liked the Ravens taking Matt Ryan to further bolster their passing game and maybe add another guy to the competition because you know there will be one in camp. Boller never got off on the right foot and Smith isn't proven enough yet, and adding Ryan to the mix could make it interesting.

NY Landing Strip, With The Sixth Pick In SBN Mock, Takes...
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 11:28:25 AM EST

The SB Nation Mock draft has been rolling along very smoothly since it began a couple of days ago. Let's just run down the top five picks and then we can address my pick.

1. Dolphins- Chris Long
2. Rams- Vernon Gholston
3. Falcons- Jake Long
4. Raiders- Darren McFadden
5. Chiefs- Sedrick Ellis

And with the sixth pick in the 2008 SB Nation NFL mock draft, Mack Rosenberg of NY Landing Strip gladly takes Glenn Dorsey from LSU. Look I know many people are saying this was the wrong move, but he was simply the best guy available, and when this is the case, you have to take him. I understand the criticism I'm getting from Matt Miller over at Mocking the Draft and the rest of the fans out there. But guys, no one that was left comes close to Dorsey in terms of hype.

I knew I wasn't taking any offensive players, and Silver and Black Pride made it that much easier for me NOT to take McFadden, which if you read NY Landing Strip, you'll know I am very against the idea of taking him. Dorsey is huge, he has the versatility on the line that we need, and with the rumors about Dewayne Robertson talking with the Broncos again about a possible trade to Denver, there's no reason why Dorsey can't be his replacement.

The guy is an absolute monster on the line, and I figure to see him along with Kris Jenkins and Shaun Ellis making the big hits for us. Aside from his talents, Dorsey was obviously the best player available, as most people have him going in the top three somewhere. Although I'll be honest with you, with the two Longs draft stock soaring over the last couple of months or so, Dorsey has somewhat fallen. I think he would be the perfect compliment to a much improved defense that has all but a young presence on the line.

Here is Matt Miller's analysis of my pick.

One thing that I have learned from my time working with and for NFL teams is that you draft for your scheme. With that in mind, where does Glenn Dorsey play in a 3-4? He has no experience as nose tackle, and is not built to be an end in this defense. The Jets are building a defense based on the Patriots 34, in knowing this, who does Dorsey compare to? He's not the tall, thick end that Richard Seymour and Ty Warren are. He's no Vince Wilfork either.

Glenn Dorsey is a three-technique tackle, at best when he's splitting a double team and man-handling guards. Putting him over the center is wasting his talent, and it's asking him to be a run-stopper when he is not. Dorsey is a penetrator, not a hole plugger. The up-side to this pick is that Dorsey is one hell of a player. He may not be conventional, but it is hard to ignore his overall talent.

The Jets ignored what is clearly their biggest need, a cornerback. With every one of the top cornerbacks on the board, New York is looking past an apparent need to grab a name player.

I would really like to further analyze the first five picks, and I will do so either later today or tomorrow as I am currently in school and the period is about to end! So I will talk to you guys later, and keep tuning into to Mocking the Draft as the picks are announced.

Dammit I hope Matt Ryan falls to us.
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 01:52:14 PM EST

Okay, first of all I don't really care that much about Matt Ryan. However, I found a really funny skit profiling the Jets offseason wonders thus far, and Matt Ryan is involved in the Jets plans because I guess Kellen Clemens throws too hard!

I've never seem this site before, but it may be something I start using as a resource considering how funny and extremely true their interpretation of the Jets offseason was. Really great stuff. Here's just a small snippet, and you can click on the link above to see the whole thing.

Pennington: I was really good in Pop Warner!

Clemens: That's because they use a 20 yard field. I bet you're like Brett Favre to a seven year old, pussy.

Pennington: Stop it, Kellen!

Clemens: Pennington: That does it!

(/swings at Clemens, arm detaches from body and falls to ground)

Classic.

Dewayne Robertson, Broncos Still Talking
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 10:01:40 PM EST

Just when the rumors of D-Rob's Jets days being numbered comes up, so does this little but noteworthy tidbit pertaining to the future of D-Rob.

The Denver Broncos' interest in lame duck Jets defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson is not dead.

Sources told ESPN.com on Monday that the Broncos are still considering trading for Robertson even after they gave him a physical and had some concerns about his knee.

So will the Broncos be back in the market for D-Rob? Clearly, the string of connections between the two sides is thin but obviously it's there, and that's where this rumor was produced from. Anyway, I could see D-Rob going somewhere else, as could most Jets fans. I have-if you've noticed- refrained from talking a lot about the issue since it really never developed into anything. But, when you see a rumor like this, I guess you have to throw it out there.

Also, congrats to Brian Bassett and the entire TJB staff (I'm in there as well!) for their new partnership with Sports Net New York! I'm sure this will do nothing but good things for the entire site along with its valued readers. Brian, I look up to you! Have a good night.

Dolphins Take Chris Long With First Pick in SBN Mock
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 03:56:54 PM EST

The insiders from the Phinsider have spoken here at our SBN mock draft, and they have chosen Chris Long, DE from Virginia. A good pick, considering the many needs of the Dolphins coming into the draft and the speculation that no one in the organization really has any idea where they're leaning to. I will post the rest of the picks as they are made public over at Mocking the Draft.

Will The Jets Make A Serious Run At Matt Ryan?
By Mack Rosenberg
Posted on Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 11:53:49 AM EST

This, in my mind, is the perfect time to address this since this week is the SB Nation NFL mock draft, and when I am on the clock I will update you. Anyway, the story going around comes from Gary Myers who has been at the owners meetings in Palm Beach, Florida. He explains the that the Jets have shown serious interest in the BC quarterback.

Pennington could easily be the starter coming out of training camp. But he and Clemens could have company this summer. The Jets held a private workout in Boston on March 21 for Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan. It was attended by Mangini, Tannenbaum and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. They are the three key QB decision-makers and they all would not have been there if the Jets did not have serious interest in Ryan.

I have always been a strong supporter of Pennington and this makes me feel good about his chances of getting some snaps in this season. With Clemens, I think this mainly shows that the Jets are interested in Ryan, and the effect of the Jets getting him that this may have on Clemens is minimal. We'll see, but I have to say this does really make me that much more excited about how I am going to pick in the mock draft that we are doing. This also tells me that the Jets front office and coaching staff may be okay with a toss up pertaining to who is going to be the starting quarterback for the season because we already addressed so many needs this off season that the team can be reliant on other parts and not have to deal with the burden of who is going to be under center.
